PSV suffer shock 3-1 defeat to PEC Zwolle as Eredivisie title race opens up | OneFootball

PSV suffered a hugely surprising 3-1 defeat to PEC Zwolle on Saturday afternoon, shaking up the Eredivisie title race. PEC’s Bulgarian star Filip Krastev stole the show with two stunning goals and an assist, while PSV captain Luuk de Jong endured a night to forget after missing a crucial penalty.

The disorders occurred soon for the Peter Bosz team at the Mac3park stadium. Just two minutes later, Jerdy Schouten lost possession, which allowed Krastev to drill on the edge of the area and take out a brilliant shot from the post, leaving Walter Benítez defenseless. The PSV had a hard time answering, but Johan Bakayoko ended up drawing at 25 minutes, finishing off a center of Ivan Perisic.

PSV had a gold to take the lead shortly after, however, De Jong missed his kick after a foul on PERISIC. PEC Zwolle capitalised on the miss before halftime, with Krastev Kerting coming home after a corner cleared in the 38th minute.

Despite a late reaction from PSV, adding a header from Pepi that hit the crossbar, Krastev sealed the victory in injury time, setting up Dylan Vente for the third goal. It was PSV’s third defeat of the season in the Eredivisie, leaving the name race open. While Ajax managed to reduce the gap to one point with a win against Heerenveen on Sunday, PSV now focus on the Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday. Meanwhile, PEC Zwolle rises to 17th place in the standings, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
