PSV suffered an incredibly unexpected 3-1 defeat to PEC Zwolle on Saturday afternoon, shaking up the Eredivisie name race. Bulgarian PEC star Filip Krastev stole the show with two stunning goals and an assist, while PSV Captain Luuk de Jong suffered a night after missing a very important penalty.
The problems started early for Peter Bosz’s team at the Mac3park stadium. Just two minutes later, Jerdy Schouten lost possession, allowing Krastev to dribble to the edge of the box and unleash a brilliant shot from the side of the post, leaving Walter Benitez defenseless. PSV struggled to respond, but Johan Bakayoko finally equalised in the 25th minute, with a header from Ivan Perisic.
The PSV had a golden opportunity to take advantage shortly after, but Jong failed his shot on purpose after a foul on Perisic. The PEC ZWOLLE took advantage of the ruling before the break, with Krastev nods after a cleared corner kick in the 38th minute.
Despite a late reaction from PSV, adding a Pepi header that hit the crossbar, Krastev sealed the victory in injury time, setting up Dylan Vente for the third goal. It was PSV’s third defeat of the season in the Eredivisie, leaving the name race open. While Ajax managed to reduce the gap to one point with a win against Heerenveen on Sunday, PSV now focus on the Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday. Meanwhile, PEC Zwolle rises to 17th place in the standings, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
