CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago Cubs added outfielder Billy Hamilton to their active list Tuesday and chose bullfighter Jose Martinez at their place of choice.
Hamilton filed waivers from the New York Mets on Monday. Hamilton, who will turn 30 on Wednesday, scored 1 of 22 in 17 games with New York before being reprimanded on Friday.
Hamilton played the last three innings of Chicago’s 3-0 win over Cincinnati in Middle Field.
Martinez, a frame player, has a record of 0 out of 14 since reaching an industry with Tampa Bay on August 30. The Cubs hoped he could solve his challenge opposed to left-handed shots this year, but it didn’t work. so far.
“In this strange season, it’s hard to give someone consistent at-bats when they feel bad and their time is interrupted,” manager David Ross said. “So just giving him a chance to pass out, have normal at-bats, get his time back and come back and be the guy we need. “
