INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Purdue coach Jeff Brohm believes football can be played safely this spring and next fall if school presidents and doctors agree.
On Thursday, two days after the Big Ten fall games were postponed, Brohm released a detailed seven-page proposal calling for an eight-game season in the spring and a 10-game season next fall, a relief in padding and a month. -Long game break between seasons.
“I think we (the conference) deserve to have had a spring backup plan ready. I was frustrated that they didn’t,” he told The Associated Press in a phone interview. There will be other people who would probably not agree with that. But at the same time, if we really play, we need to play football. so let’s do paintings this season. “
At least it is a verbal exchange topic, as one of the darkest weeks in the history of school football comes to an end. Leagues like Big Ten, Pac-12 and others have canceled fall football even as ACC, Big 12 and SEC advance uncertainty and anxiety.
Brohm used the anger and frustration generated by the announcement of the Big Ten to motivate him to find a solution. He finished the document on Thursday morning.
The plan requires groups to attend a two-week educational camp on January 16 before moving on to 4 weeks of practice, with two mandatory rest days per week and only two padded workouts consistent with the week. Eight games will be played at the convention from February 27 to April 17, with no weeks off, before the four- or six-team playoffs in May.
Most players would have a three-month break from the mandatory sessions before pre-camp paintings begin on July 19. The groups would play a 10-game season from October 2 to December 2. 11, with a week’s rest consistent with the equipment and a padded paint consistent with the week. A playoff series would take up the first two weeks of January.
Critics can simply argue that school players don’t play up to 22 games over an 11-month period. Big Ten officials did not respond without delay to an email requesting comments on the plan.
“Can you have spring football and enough from a neurological and muscular point of view, skeletal, and then continue until a full fall season?” Brian Hainline, NCAA medical director, asked.
Brohm’s response: NFL groups play up to 25 games over a five-month period consistent with the year, and school football playoff groups averaged up to 1,875 games consistent with the month before the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, brohm believes, a spring season would give medical groups more time to collect data on vaccines and remedies and, potentially, the unpleasant appearance of empty stages.
A potentially significant challenge if the CCA, The Big 12 and SEC play this fall: separate playoff formats and separate champions. Of course, medical headaches can replace everything, in which case Brohm would welcome those schools to the table.
“This plan would be better if we were all together,” Brohm said. “I can’t wait for him. But I think you can adapt, and I think it can be painted very well if all school football is on that front. Array”.
