Raheem Sterling says Manchester City is hungry to pass everyone in the Champions League.
Pep Guardiola beat Real Madrid 13 times 4–2 overall to host a quarter-final clash with Lyon in Lisbon on Saturday.
And Sterling said the speed of City’s paintings was the key to glory this month.
“They gave us a wonderful result in front of a wonderful team,” Sterling said. “The most vital thing about all the boys is to pass our socks. That’s one of the main reasons they gave us the result. “
“I think it depends on who sought it to the fullest, who ran to the fullest. I’m not saying they didn’t, but we were very hungry.
“The mentality since we got here, the first day after the lockout so far, has been how much we are.
“We have the power to progress in this competition, power and struggle, and we have evidently shown that the opposite of Madrid. “
Although City have moved away from Cristiano Ronaldo in the last eight games following Juventus’ departure, Sterling and his teammates know Lyon will not be easy.
The City was 2-1 at home through the entrepreneurial French team at the organization level two years ago and remained 1-1 as a visitor.
“They’re a wonderful team and it’s going to be hard,” Sterling said. “But I keep saying the same thing: there are groups at your festival with wonderful quality. We have to maintain power and play our football. “
“It’s a new format, for which we are prepared. “
Sterling’s first match against Real Madrid made him the sixth English player to score 20 Champions League goals, joining Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Harry Kane.
“It’s an achievement, but now I need a little more in the next two games to keep progressing,” Sterling said.
“The most vital thing is that my goals count for everything and can do it at the end of the competition. “
Sterling praised Gabriel Jesús, who took the position of the injured Sergio Aguero and scored the first goal against real before scoring the moment with a big header.
“Against real it is vital not to lose his socks, and he remains the sensible one on this list to do so,” Sterling said of the 23-year-old Brazilian striker who joined Eithad from Palmeiras in 2017.
“He works for the team and contributes. I was worried about both goals and I’m satisfied with it.
It’s not a substitute here, we have two strikers at this club, both strikers score goals and when you play with one or the other, you know what to expect.
“Or they are the most productive players in the face of a purpose. And Gabby’s composure in the face of a purpose is impressive. “
