Raheem Sterling warned Chelsea that Manchester City is the team that can prevent him from winning the Champions League final in Porto.
Having won the Premier League name by galloping and lifting the Carabao Cup this season, Man City is at the break point of a triple season this weekend.
Chelsea are among them and their first European Cup win, and Thomas Tuchel’s Blues have beaten City twice in more than six weeks to recommend that this latest all-English test go all the way.
Sterling has entered and left Pep Guardiola’s starting lineout this season, but is convinced that if The City enters the game with the right mindset, there will be a winner if it comes to talent.
“Chelsea are a team with a lot of players physically,” Sterling said.
“We’ve faced them twice and lost two, but it’s a Champions League final. On this day, things are very different. “
“You enter with a mood, you abandon those games that have been opposed to you in recent years. Now it’s a matter of focusing on winning this trophy.
“The things that can prevent us are ourselves, if I am honest. It’s a game where I expect a tough check but at the same time I hope we succeed. “
While Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez are more likely to start than Sterling at Dragao Stadium, there is a smart chance that England’s foreigner will have a role to play, as Guardiola can make five alternates.
The 26-year-old left Liverpool for City in 2015 to pursue his career and admits that in those matches he has long been the target.
He said: “Since I’ve been at this club, which has been the ultimate goal, try to succeed in the last of the Champions League and look to bring the trophy home.
“There’s still one game left to play, it’s a Champions League final, so you don’t want much more motivation than that. “
