Rangers inflicted Celtic’s first defeat of the season with a 3-0 win as Philippe Clement’s former Hoodoo finished to relieve some of the Rangers manager.
Hurting from dropped points at St Mirren and Motherwell, Clement’s side were fired up to beat their rivals for the first time since May 2023.
They were the team from the beginning and Ianis Hagi gave life to the fans when he marked the first attack only seven minutes from the counterattack.
Vaclav Cerny hit the woodwork on either of Kyogo’s goals as the Rangers continued to dominate. Robin Propper hit his moment with Danilo coming off the bench to seal a complete victory with his first touch.
Some of the brightness taken from victory when Arne Engels of Celtic hit a currency thrown into the crowd, with the police in Scotland now investigating.
The Celtic, far from being at its best, maintains 11 points ahead in the race for the Scottish premiere, while Clément turns out to have conquered the fans again, for the moment.
Rangers were at a disadvantage with goalkeeper Jack Butland and Captain James Tavernier but started with a genuine goal and Nedim Bajrami blocked 3 on-hit shots as they were quickly advanced.
It took just seven minutes for Ibrox to burst into life when Hagi collected from stand-in captain Raskin to send a brilliant strike into the corner of the net.
The hosts excited.
Vaclav Cerny almost doubled his advance a while later, his shot deflecting Liam’s scales and cutting the more sensible crossbar off Ridvan Yilmaz and then forcing Kasper Schmeichel into a backup a few minutes later.
Celtic had a hard time conceding a pass with Daizen Maeda, Daizen Maeda’s, who should have been offering in the first half of the hour.
Hagi had one to bring the score to 2-0 when Reo Hatate sold the ball, but this time he dragged his shot in next.
Then, Cameron Carter-Vickers to the rescue with a bright and timed slider version to save him, Mohamed Diomande of putting the more rangers.
Jefte left Nicolas Kuhn with a nose cut when the break was approaching when he received a reserve. After the resulting loose kick, Liam Kelly controlled a brilliant stop in his old beginnings to prevent Maeda from defining from the Paulo Bernardo corner.
The captains collided when the beep sounded, Raskin received a yellow card while Callum McGregor, already under warning, avoided the penalty.
Celtic sought to return to the game and Kyogo sent a bright volley on Kelly and the network, but Var showed that it really off.
Cerny then rattled the woodwork again as his shot crashed off the post before Rodgers rang the changes with Adam Idah, Alex Valle and Luke McCowan replacing Kyogo, Greg Taylor and Bernardo.
Rangers threatened again.
Schmeichel got down to push Cerny’s shot past, but seconds later they doubled their lead as Propper slammed the ball in on the rebound after Raskin’s header was blocked.
The hosts were looking for more and Schmeichel fixes Yilmaz’s long-range strike as the hoops looked concussed.
And it wasn’t over yet when Danilo came off the bench here to sweep the third with his first hit of the game.
The fans were in dreamland but still, objects were thrown from the stands onto the pitch late on with police involved in clearing them.
Clement took his players to celebrate with the fans while the Celtic players trudged down the Ibrox tunnel in disbelief at their poor showing.
The chief of the Rangers, Philippe Clement Sky Sports:
“It is very intelligent because the boys have won the praise they deserve. What they have not achieved in recent weeks, in the last of the Los Angeles Coupe Ligue Aims granted.
“Things weren’t in our looks then, but you can see that even with injuries and players, everyone on this team works really hard for more and more.
“This is proof of that and we will have to continue like this in the coming weeks and months.
“Nico [Raskin] was not ready for captaincy a few months ago. But he is taking steps. The more captains you have, the better your team is.
“It is a very vital victory. This gives confidence to the enthusiasts and to all those who are attached to the Rangers. This new team is built, has a lot of prospects and the paints are strong. They are my paintings and my paintings and my Project too.
Celta Brendan Rodgers on Sky Sports:
“I thought the best team won. I thought Rangers were better than us.
“We made too many mistakes. When they get the first goal, it provides the stadium and everyone in the game, then the moment of the moment we lose it from the corner and the third goal, obviously, once again we lose the ball.
“We did too many in the game and the Rangers deserved to win.
“It’s not what you want and it’s not what your game plan is to play. I just felt that we were slowing the ball and then we lacked an edge when we didn’t have it.
“Too passive, just enough competitive. All around, very intelligent performance. “
