Rangers have asked the SFA to broadcast VAR audio on Celtic’s adjustment after Ibrox’s side were denied a penalty at Celtic Park.
Before the break, Alistair Johnston appeared to push the ball out of play with his hand when he was involved in a scuffle inside the box with Rangers striker Abdallah Sima. Referee Nick Walsh failed to point the point, while Willie Colum’s VAR subsidised the referee, and the handball accusations first appeared to be dismissed. At half-time, pundits James McFadden, Neil Lennon and Kris Boyd told Sky that the Celtic star deserved to have been penalised for handball.
Commentator Ian Crocker took advantage of a pause in the game to explain the scenario, stating that he had since been told that a possible offside in the preseason was the cause of the big talking point that did not penalize the home team. He asked for an explanation and this audio is published.
They add that the broadcaster was also “deeply unhappy and confused” by the situation. A statement read: “Rangers have asked the SFA to make the VAR audio available to the club to understand why no penalty was awarded despite a clear handball by Celtic’s Alistair Johnston.
“The club needs to understand the procedure that led to this decision, as it was not made public at the time or communicated to our team. We also sense that Sky, as the official broadcaster of the league, is deeply dissatisfied with the situation. .
“Their panel spent the break agreeing that Rangers had been awarded a penalty without the prudence of an offside check. Again, it didn’t come to light until the second half. Rangers are still in favour of VAR but want there to be a lot more transparency about it. to work. . . in Scotland. “
Former SFA referee Steve Conroy believes Rangers were denied a clear penalty in the disputed area. Conroy stated that VAR may not be concerned in an offside situation when verifying a penalty.
Conroy told Sports Lens: “Rangers were robbed of the chance to equalise with a penalty. It’s a transparent penalty. Offside doesn’t matter. The VAR can only check the offside if there is a consequence, i. e. a goal. There are none.
Willie Collum is there to check if there has been a hand or a formation. Tellingly, the game resumed with a goal kick and an oblique free kick, as would have been the case if it had been awarded offside.
