The RANGERS faced either Dynamo Kyiv or Partizan Belgrade in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.
Philippe Clément’s men will not take part in the contest until next month, but the draw was held in Nyon, Switzerland.
It is the first year of the new Champions League format, with a 36-team league level replacing the classic organization levels.
According to the new format, the groups will play 8 games in this new phase of the championship. Instead of playing 3 home and away games, groups will now play against 8 other groups, with part of the games being played at home and part away.
Firstly, the clubs will be distributed into 4 other pots based on their classification and who they will face.
For the third qualifying round, the Ibrox club could have faced Lugano or Fenerbahce, Dynamo Kyiv or Partizan Belgrade, in addition to FC Twente and Union Saint-Gilloise.
Rangers were seeded for the draw, meaning they have avoided Slavia Prague, Red Bull Salzburg and Lille.
Lugano and Fenerbahce will play the first leg of their second qualifying round, with Dynamo Kyiv and Partizan Belgrade also in action.
The tie will take place over August 6/7 and August 13. The first leg will be in Ukraine or Serbia, with the return match at (most likely) Hampden.
The winners will advance to the play-offs, where a Champions League spot is at stake.
However, if the Gers lose in the play-offs, they could have the comfort of a position in the Europa League organization phase.
And if they lose to Dynamo Kyiv or Partizan Belgrade, they will parachute to the same level of competition.
Premiership rivals Hearts already have a place in the Europa League play-offs thanks to their third-place finish last season.
Rangers have two more pre-season games left before their European Championship begins.
They face Birmingham at St Andrew’s on Wednesday and then Germany to face Union Berlin on Saturday.
