The report suggests that Ibrox is still looking for new midfielders, hoping to end Celtic’s dominance in the league. The midfielder’s contract with the Russian look expired in early August, which means he can be hired without having to pay a transfer fee.
Although the report has made it clear that Rangers are interested in Russian midfielder Daler Kuzyaev, it remains to be noted if they can convince him to go to Scotland. Marseilles, Besiktas and Alavés are said to be interested in Russian services, but Rangers would lead the race at this stage. A willing runner with the ball at his feet, the Russian foreigner would bring a much more dynamic presence to the Gers midfielder than anything he has been showing off lately. Having been with the Russian club for more than six years, there is no lack of the quality he possesses, as further underlined by the fact that he has secured 21 matches for his country.
The Ibrox club aspires to challenge Celtic by name this season, and locating a more offensive midfielder will be key to achieving it. Kuzyaev will probably take some time to adjust to the pace and intensity of the British game, but once he does, there is no denying the quality it would bring. A midfield haggling is anything Steven Gerrard’s team has been cheating on for the past two seasons, and Kuzyaev may simply be the guy who closes the gap between the Ibrox club and the Premiership protectors.
