MILAN: AC Milan has abandoned its plans to rent former RB Leipzig coach and Schalke 04 Ralf Rangnick, German magazine Kicker said Tuesday.

Italian media have been reporting since February that Milan is in negotiations with the 62-year-old coach starting next season at the initiative of the club’s general manager, Ivan Gazidis.

However, the team experienced a renaissance with coach Stefano Pioli, who has been fired with a year of his contract to run to make way for the German.

The role of Rangnick, like england’s coach, may also have led to the dismissal of technical director Paolo Maldini, the club’s favourite.

Kicker said Rangnick would now work with energy beverage manufacturer Red Bull, where he has a role as sports progression manager.

He quoted a comment from Rangnick’s adviser Marc Kosicke, saying: “AC Milan and Ralf Rangnick have agreed that this is not the right time to cooperate at this time.

“For this reason, and given the smart progression and smart effects of coach Pioli, together they have said that Ralf Rangnick will not take a position with AC Milan.”

There was no quick comment from Milan, which was absent from Sassuolo to Serie A on Tuesday.

Rangnick is considered a visionary and one of the fashion pioneers of high-pressure competitive football, while Pioli, a reputable in Italy, has never won a primary title.
