Ravens defenseman Kyle Hamilton wins AFC Defensive Player of the Week award after 2 INT night

When the Baltimore Ravens selected Kyle Hamilton with the 14th pick in the draft last season, they thought the team had stolen one of the protection clients in fashion history.

In his two years at Charm City, Hamilton’s play has been even better than anything head coach John Harbaugh or the team front could have hoped for.

Hamilton won the AFC Defensive Player of the Week award for his two-interception game against the San Francisco 49ers that saw the NFC-leading Ravens 33-19. In the win, Hamilton also had five tackles and 3 assists.

His interceptions were two of five Baltimore has thrown to San Francisco’s quarterback collection there, adding former MVP favorite Brock Purdy.

In 15 starts this season, the Notre Dame product has 81 combined tackles, 4 interceptions, 3 sacks, 10 tackles for turnovers and thirteen assists. When he was in the Ravens’ area, Hamilton’s drive lowered his opponent’s passer score from just 75. 7 (the opponent’s passer score jumps to 96. 1 when Hamilton is in the box).

Despite Hamilton’s good luck this season, he missed Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury he suffered in Baltimore’s win on Christmas Day.

Harbaugh later said the knee injury “doesn’t look serious” and that he’s “pretty optimistic” the second-year goalie will be able to play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
