BALTIMORE (AP) – Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Austin Meadows was placed friday on the 10-day disabled list with indirect tension that will keep him out of the playoffs.
The injury occurred when Meadows gained momentum in Thursday’s first game against the Orioles. The Rays won any of the games to earn a place in the American League playoffs, and will want a deep run to bring Meadows back to the lineup.
“We’ll have to play well with Array to see it at any time for the rest of the season,” manager Kevin Cash said.
Meadows defeated Array205 with four home runs and thirteen RBIs. Last year, he hit Array291 with 33 home runs and 89 RBIs, so his bat is still welcome in the Tampa Bay lineup.
“I don’t want to communicate austin’s importance,” Cash said.
To complete the list, Tampa Bay chose left-hander Sean Gilmartin at their place of choice. To get Gilmartin on the 40-man list, the Rays transferred pitcher Cody Reed (left irritation) to 45-day IL, ending their season.
Reed released two games for the Rays after being acquired in an industry with the Reds on August 28, and placed the 10-day IL on September 10, retroactive to September 7.
“Cody went to see a doctor today and he’ll miss a vital moment,” Cash said. It seems to be a numbness challenge in parts of your hand and fingers. It’s a disgrace because we acquired Cody with high hopes. ”
While Cash and the Rays is focusing on al East’s victory, the manager said he would review his squad due to Meadows’ loss.
“We’ll take this opportunity over the next eight or nine games to find out how we should continue roster preparation,” Cash said before Friday’s match opposed to the Orioles. We’ll find a way to be creative. ”
