RB Leipzig have today announced the appointment of Sebastian Schuppan as their new Sporting Director, working under Marcel Schäfer, Marco Rose and Manuel Baum, effective immediately. He will be joined by Daniel Baier, who will start his role as Sports Coordinator in February.
Schuppan will oversee Leipzig’s first team, fitness and departments, a promotion from his previous position as the club’s sports advisor, a position he has held since November 2023.
Baier, former Augsburg captain and experienced Bundesliga player, worked as a scout for Augsburg, Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich. The 40-year-old recently terminated his contract with Bayern and will head the scouting and knowledge research branch in Leipzig from February 15.
Both Schuppan and Baier will join Schäfer, as will Rose (head coach of the men’s first team), Baum (director of youth football) and Viola Odebrecht (director of women’s and women’s football).
Leipzig finishes fourth, one point ahead of Stuttgart, against whom they suffered a 2-1 defeat on Wednesday night.
