LIVERPOOL star Fabio Carvalho was sent straight back out on loan to Hull City after returning from RB Leipzig earlier this month.
The 21-year-old left the club because he “didn’t need to face the competition”, according to Bundesliga director Rouven Schroder.
The Reds’ youngster signed for Leipzig in the summer but was called back by Jurgen Klopp’s side after just 158 minutes in the Bundesliga.
Carvalho, who made 15 appearances but was on the Leipzig bench most of the time, struggled to get past the likes of Dani Olmo and Lois Openda.
After a disappointing spell in Germany, the Portuguese U21 team has been loaned to Hull City for the rest of the season.
Schroder cited his lack of determination to fight for a place on the team as the explanation for his departure.
He told RB Live: “We made the conscious decision to go with Fabio last summer.
“He has had a season with Fulham in the English second division, which is very physical.
“We said to ourselves: a wonderful talent, an age, he already has experience. “
“However, you don’t know a player as a final product until he’s there.
“Fabio has a wonderful character. But he realized, ‘Okay, I’m a competitor here, I want to do more!’
“And we noticed that he didn’t want to face the competition.”
And at Christmas, doubts were raised about Carvalho’s long career in Leipzig.
When Liverpool asked to end the loan, the German side objected.
Schroder continued, “Do you feel more comfortable with a guy or are you transparent and direct and say, look, if you don’t need to go down that road, then we’ll move on to finalize the loan?
“You’re afraid to give up. “
Carvalho’s first appearance for the Championship team was not as glorious as he hoped, as he was part of the 2-1 loss to Norwich on Friday night.
