RB Leipzig points to Hwang Hee-chan of Red Bull Salzburg

Hwang will particularly develop Julian Nagelsmann’s attacking characteristics for the upcoming season after signing a five-year contract with the team that finished third in the 2019/20 Bundesliga.

Leipzig’s new ability to compensate for the loss of striker Werner, who left for Chelsea after scoring 28 league goals and 34 in all competitions this season.

Hwang also had a brilliant year for Salzburg, completing the crusade with 11 goals and the same amount of assists in 25 league games and scoring 3 goals and 3 assists, as two consequences, in the UEFA Champions League organizing phase.

“Hwang Hee-chan fits our profile perfectly,” said Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche. “You can play in attack, by the gangs or by the center. It gives us even more flexibility, with its pace and movements.

“Hwang Hee-chan has had a brilliant season in Austria, as a goalscorer and supplier, and in the Champions League.”

Hwang has been in Salzburg since January 2015, but is no stranger to German football after spending the 2018/19 season on loan in Hamburg. The 24-year-old has scored two goals in 20 Bundesliga 2 matches and has missed much of the moment due to injury.

However, he regained his taste in Salzburg, scoring 16 times and totaling 21 assists in 38 matches in all competitions, for Jesse Marsch’s team to give a league and cup double.

“I’m on the hunt for the challenge of betting on Leipzig and the Bundesliga,” Hwang said. “I sign up for a young club with ambitious goals and a team hungry for success. They’re the best thing for me, as is their offensive taste for football.”

Before Christmas, Hwang teamed up with current Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, while Salzburg gave a real scare to Liverpool and Napoli in the Champions League, before the Austrian team, however, finished third in their group.

As a result, Salzburg fell into the UEFA Europa League and, with the departure of Haaland, lost 6-3 overall to Eintracht Frankfurt in the last 32 games. Hwang scored from the penalty spot in his 4–1 defeat in the first leg. Eagles in February.

“Moving to Leipzig is the next vital step in my career as a professional footballer,” Hwang continued. “I need to continue the good luck of the team and worry about as many goals as possible.”
