RB Leipzig, who have faced Liverpool in the last 16 Champions League matches, announced on Thursday that they had signed the end of RB Salzburg’s sister club Dominik Szoboszlai as the 18th player to move from the Austrian look to the Bundesliga team.
The 20-year-old Hungarian striker is said to have charged 20 million euros ($24 million) and signed a contract until June 2025 in a movement through groups belonging to the Red Bull energy drink logo.
Szoboszlai had caught the attention of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid by scoring 26 goals and creating 34 more in 82 games since reaching Salszburg in July 2017 from his club at the time, FC Liefering.
In August, Szoboszlai told German magazine Kicker that he wanted to play in one of europe’s leagues with “a five-sensation team. “
After Salzburg failed to make it in the champions’ round of eight, Szoboszlai could line up against Liverpool in the first leg against Leipzig on 16 February.
Leipzig executive leader Oliver Mintzlaff said they had invested the cash to succeed in circular 16 to point to Szoboszlai and bring “additional quality” to his team.
The movement window doesn’t open until next month, so Szoboszlai is eligible to make his debut against Borussia Dortmund on 9 January, which could see him face former Salzburg teammate Erling Braut Haaland.
The duo spent 12 months together in Salzburg in 2019, when Haaland scored 8 goals in six champions league organizing matches with Szoboszlai on the left wing.
After taking Manchester United out of the Champions League with a 3–2 home win in their last level of organization to succeed in the 16-round circular, Leipzig are in the Bundesliga title race.
A fortnight ago they won a 3-3 draw protecting champion Bayern Munich.
His 1-0 win at Hoffenheim on Wednesday leaves Leipzig third in the German standings, tied with 27 problems with Bayern and one with leader Bayer Leverkusen.
