Real Madrid boss Zidane hopeful Eden Hazard will return to full fitness before Man City

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has spoken out over the possibility of Eden Hazard returning to fitness in time for the resumption of the Spanish giants’ Champions League campaign.

The 2019/20 La Liga season drew to a close on Sunday the 19th of July.

Real Madrid had already wrapped up their 34th Spanish league title earlier in the week, with a 2-1 victory over Villarreal.

Nevertheless, Los Blancos were no doubt still keen to finish their domestic campaign in style.

But despite taking the lead twice through Sergio Ramos and Marco Asensio, the capital outfit were eventually held to a 2-2 draw by Leganes.

While, in the end, they failed to pick up all three points on Sunday, though, Real’s 2019/20 league campaign had been sensational.

Real Madrid’s attentions will now, obviously, turn to the European stage.

Zinedine Zidane has a remarkable record as a manager in the Champions League, having won Europe’s most coveted club prize in every season in which he has managed Real.

However, Madrid are in real danger of being knocked out of the competition in the last-16 stage this term.

The La Liga champions will head into their 2nd-leg with Manchester City in August with a 2-1 deficit to overcome at the Etihad.

As a result, Real will no doubt be keen to have their star players fit, including Eden Hazard.

The Belgian, who has endured his fair share of injury woes this campaign, was left out of Real’s squad to face Leganes this past weekend.

But, speaking about Hazard after his side’s draw, Zinedine Zidane stated that he is hopeful the former Chelsea man will be back fully fit to play in the Champions League:

“We’re all going to do our best, especially those who take care of the players’ physical wellbeing, to make sure he doesn’t feel any discomfort. He’s been feeling a bit after playing and I hope he can get back fully fit after the rest to play in the Champions League”.
