Real Madrid, the Spanish football giants agreed an agreement with the left side Ferland Mendy to earn more in the club, with a new contract close to being signed to dedicate to whites until 2027.
The Frenchman arrived from Olympique Lyon in 2019 and has made 175 appearances for the team since then, winning two Champions League titles and three La Liga championships in the process.
Now, MARCA reports that the two parties have reached an agreement to ensure that Mendy continues to wear the white of Real Madrid beyond the end of his existing contract, which expires on June 30th, 2025.
Negotiations have been ongoing throughout the summer, when Mendy was competing in the 2024 European Championships in Germany with the French national team, following the decision of coach Carlo Ancelotti to underline the importance of Mendy to his system before heading on vacation.
The talks have been fruitful and now an announcement is expected in the coming days to officially check the contract extension of one of the Real Madrid players.
There had been a hypothesis that connected Real Madrid with Bayern Munich and the Canadian star Alphonso Davies, Mendy, 29, has been shown to be a guy with a lot of confidence in Carlo Ancelotti.
There have been numerous rivals arrive at Real Madrid seeking to displace Mendy, but none have succeeded. His first was club legend Marcelo, with Mendy’s arrival easing the Brazilian out of the picture under Zinedine Zidane, eventually replacing the man who had held the position since the days of Roberto Carlos.
Promising youngster Miguel Gutierrez was also unable to compete and send to Girona where he continued to impress as a component of the Míchel look that reached the top 4 in La Liga last season.
The latest man to compete with Mendy has been Fran García, who returned from a move to Rayo Vallecano with a strong reputation and initially beginning the 2023/24 season as first choice for Carlo Ancelotti. However, Mendy’s consistency and defensive strength quickly saw him regain his place in the team.
Mendy is not the first player to commit his future to Real Madrid as Andriy Lunin also put pen to paper on an extended contract earlier this month. That means that there are three players who are currently with the club whose contracts are still set to expire in the summer of 2025.
Those players are all over the age of 30 and include captain Luka Modrić, vice-captain Dani Carvajal, and fellow veteran Lucas Vázquez. Modrić and Vázquez both extended their existing deals last summer, and it is suspected that the Croatian could move on before next season.
Carvajal spoke about his long career on Monday, explaining that “my concept is to stay as long as possible, but to be realistic. When I don’t think I’m at a smart enough level, I’ll retire. Whenever the club needs to continue my services, of course. “Then he added that “it depends on the club, what the team will have to plan. Situations after a safe age will have to be renewed year after year and I have no problem, as long as my situations are smart. “
