Ander Barrenetxea gave Real Sociedad the lead early in the match, but Joselu and Fede Valverde scored one after the break to lead Real Madrid to the comeback in the second half.
The first half was an entertaining back and forth, where both teams wasted several quality chances. Real Sociedad started strong and went ahead just five minutes later, thanks to Barrenetxea. The Real Sociedad prodigy was first sent off by Kepa Arrizabalaga. He then took advantage of the rebound to send the ball into the back of the net.
Real Madrid, stunned, saw minutes later the former player Takefusa Kubo find the net, but his goal was disallowed for offside.
Kubo’s disallowed goal served as a wake-up call for the Whites, with Joselu hitting the crossbar. Rodrygo squandered the opportunity before Kepa made a great stop to send Mikel Merino off just after 30 minutes.
Real Madrid took to the pitch after the break, and Valverde levelled the score with a shot from the front of the box just two minutes into the second half.
The hosts managed to turn around, with Fran Garcia setting up the equaliser for Valverde, making a precise cross and Joselu returning home on the hour.
Real Sociedad pushed for an equaliser but struggled to create clear chances. Carlo Ancelotti’s team wasted a wonderful opportunity to sentence the match, when a shot by Valverde narrowly missed with 4 minutes to go.
Jude Bellingham came close to scoring in stoppage time, but Remiro made an ordinary save to deny the England international the goal.
This means that Real Madrid remain the leader of the table with 15 points, while Real Sociedad, who suffered their first defeat of the season, are in eleventh position with six points.
