Real Madrid sneak into the quarter-finals of the Champions League after unconvincingly beating RB Leipzig

Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League this season after beating RB Leipzig. However, the result was far from convincing for the 14-time winners, as they drew 1-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu that afternoon. A 2-1 aggregate win.

The Whites were terrible in the first forty-five minutes. Leipzig dominated the match and had several chances to score. However, a combination from Andriy Lunin and a poor finish meant that the match remained goalless until the break.

He had to pay for his profligacy, as Real Madrid took the lead in the minute. An incisive counter-attack ended with Jude Bellingham bringing on Vinicius Junior, who made no mistake to open the scoring.

However, the lead lasted 3 minutes, when Willi Orban equalised with a header for Leipzig after a cross from David Raum. This brought the score to 2-1 on aggregate, which created more nerves for the home team.

In the end it didn’t matter because Real Madrid saw it clearly. They will find out their quarter-final sides next week, after the Champions League round of 16.
