A rampant, ruthless Barcelona produced a scintillating attacking performance to sweep aside Real Madrid 5-2 and secure the Spanish Super Cup.

The two rivals had starred in a Clásico with the titles at stake and it turned out to be a captivating encounter, with two dynamic attacking lines demonstrating their skills. Shaken early by a delightful goal from Kylian Mbappé that opposed the development of the game, the Catalan club tore Real apart in the first half with Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski in the foreground while Pedri and Gavi pulled the strings.

Four first-half goals were followed by a fifth from the Barcelona captain just after the interval, putting them out of sight despite Wojciech Szczesny’s sending off. The goalkeeper saw red for a challenge on Mbappe after the Frenchman had surged away from the defence, and though Rodrygo converted the resulting free kick past replacement Inaki Pena, the defending champions had been left with too much to do on the same day that they lost top spot in La Liga to cross-city rivals Atletico.

The logo raised Carlo Ancelotti’s eyebrows when one of his players played a low, direct ball that placed Peña almost perfectly in Barcelona’s goal.

Raphinha’s day is over, it’s Ferran Torres’ turn and they do some physio paintings. Stretch your hands and it probably won’t be long before they wrap a trophy.

Fran García’s cross is headed by Antonio Rudiger and away from Barcelona’s goal for a corner. Iñaki Peña comes to pick him up and complains comfortably.
