Red Bull technical director Pierre Wache has warned the FIA that he opposes active aerodynamic parts to “remedy” the shortcomings of the new generation of F1 cars. This follows comments from Max Verstappen about possible car weight issues as the sport prepares for adjustments to the 2026 technical regulations.
The 2026 regulatory tweaks concentrate on converting the powertrains used in F1 cars. The next generation will use an equivalent split between internal combustion engine strength and electric force, while active aerodynamic parts will be able to be used for racing only.
“You can’t put patch after patch after patch to accomplish something,” Wache told Motorsport. com. “You have to look at the challenge with a broader view and ask yourself, ‘How can I solve this challenge and how can I solve it?My challenge?’
“What car features do I want to have to achieve something?” If you want a solution to fix certain problems, you can do it later. But we don’t start with a patch. Otherwise it never works. ”

Wache also criticized the procedure used by the FIA for the 2026 regulations, adding: “But the challenge is that they didn’t think about the whole concept [of the new regulations] at the same time. First they established the moteur. et regulations now we have to deal with that in the aspect of the chassis to compensate for the challenge we have.
These comments follow the concerns of Verstappen, who was extremely concerned about his first experience with the new generation of cars in the Red Bull simulator. The Red Bull star hasn’t been shy when it comes to criticising the FIA’s decision-making over the past 12 months.
Outlining his complaints, Verstappen said: “You have the active aerodynamics, which you can’t control, and the system will control it for you. Which then I think makes it very awkward to drive because I prefer to control it myself.

“Of course, when you’re somebody, you might want to go forward or further back. That sort of thing. But if the formula starts controlling that for you, I don’t think it’s the right way to go. “
“Also, the weight keeps increasing. So yes, we want to look at this seriously because I mean, 26 isn’t that far away. And right now, to me, it looks really bad based on all the numbers and what. “I’m already seeing it in the data. So it’s not something I’m very excited about right now. “
