Red Sox Notes: Boston Expresses Mixed Feelings on New Inning Rule

The Red Sox was given their first genuine flavor of the new major league extra entry rule on Saturday night, not necessarily looking in Boston’s favor.

Under the new rule, groups will start more baseball circulars with a runner at the base moment. The Red Sox were the first to experiment with the rule, recording a race to the most sensible of the tenth.

The Orioles, however, were more successful, with Rio Ruiz scoring in a Matt Barnes draw before Pedro Severino finished the game with a single winner.

In fact, this is not the result the Red Sox expected. But manager Ron Roenicke liked the way the new rule worked.

“It was interesting. I liked it,” he told reporters after adjustment via Zoom. “You’re going to look for him right away, you’re looking to find out what you’re going to do. Once we’ve scored a point, it’s up to them if they’re looking to tie it up with a cavity. if they do, and they had the right man.

“So the moment was there. It’s complicated because we know it’s going to be the best hollow space and we haven’t gotten any results, which hurts.”

Martín Pérez, who missed the victory on Saturday, has another opinion.

“I feel like we’re playing a small league,” he said. “But, those are the regulations. We have to stick to the regulations. And (in) the tenth inning, they played more than us and put the ball in play. Arrangement… It’s strange, but like I said, those are the regulations and we have to stick to them.”

Maybe Boston will have more next time. For now, his three-game winning streak has stopped.

Here are some notes from Saturday’s Orioles-Red Sox game:

– Pérez made one of the departures of his season on Saturday night.

The left-hander pitched seven fake innings, allowing only one clean run on five hits and struck out six. Naturally, Roenicke is satisfied with his progress this season.

“Excellent exit, ” said Roenicke after the game. »… Seven innings, wonderful ball control paints all night, smart change, very smart (and) well controlled fastball. It’s a shame we didn’t give him a victory. »

– The Orioles broke a streak of six in a row with the victory in tonight’s extra inning.

The Red Sox, meanwhile, broke a three-game streak with defeat.

– Alex Verdugo extended his winning streak to thirteen games on Saturday with a double in the third inning.

– Mitch Moreland made a pitch resolution in the tenth after an empty sacrificial space by Cedric Mullins sent the tie race to Ruiz at 3rd base.

And although he understands the idea of the original piece, Roenicke would have liked to see something a little different.

“Yes, it would happen first, ” said Roenicke. “It was such a complicated cavity. Array… It’s happening to have to get up and throw it first with a guy flying all over the line. Array… You’re looking to get at least one.

– Red Sox return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, with Zack Godley recovering the ball for Boston.
