Referee: Matej Jug (Slovenia) Assistant referee: Matej Žunič (Slovenia)
Matej Jug has been appointed referee for Thursday’s UEFA Europa League Group A match at London Stadium.
Jug, a wonderful Slovenian official, has been a referee on the FIFA roster since 2007 and has extensive refereeing experience in UEFA’s European competitions.
The 43-year-old refereed a Europa League qualifier for the first time in the 2007/08 season, leading Lithuanian club FK Ekranas to a 3-1 win over B36 Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands and featured in Champions League matches in 2011/12. campaign.
At the national level, Jug has also refereed four Slovenian Football Cup finals, the most recent being the 2018/19 final, in which NK Olimpija secured a 2-1 victory over NK Maribor.
He has managed another level of UEFA Europa League organisation this season, refereeing AEK Athens’ 1-1 draw against Ajax in Group B in October.
Jug will be assisted by fellow Slovenians Matej Žunič and Manuel Vidali for West Ham United’s home match against Olympiacos.
Žunič and Vidali collaborated with Jug in the draw between AEK Athens and Ajax and also have their own experience in UEFA and FIFA competitions.
Žunič first played in the Europa League in a 2010–11 qualifying match between Icelandic side Fylkir Reykjavík and Belarusian side Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino and has since worked in European and foreign competitions.
He was also part of the refereeing team for the 2012 UEFA Super Cup between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, which the Spanish side won 4–1: Jug was fit to be chosen as an additional assistant referee.
Meanwhile, Vidali has also been a regular in European tournaments since his Europa League debut in the 2014/15 season. He also led the line in 3 matches at UEFA Europa League organisational level last season, SC Freiburg’s 3-0 win at Olympiacos in September 2022 and Real Betis’ 2-1 away win at AS Roma in October 2022.
Asmir Sagrković will be the fourth official, having played for UEFA in the Champions League and Europa League since the 2014/15 season.
German official Christian Dingert will supervise the duties of the video assistant referee. The 43-year-old has been a full foreign referee for FIFA since 2013 and is considered a regular in the Bundesliga. 1 draw between 1. FC Köln and FC Augsburg at the weekend.

Michael Salisbury has been unveiled as the referee for Sunday’s Premier League match between West Ham United and Nottingham Forest.
Salisbury has been part of the refereeing set-up since the 2022/23 season and has featured in 4 Premier League matches so far this campaign, the most recent being the 1-1 draw between Brighton.
Sunday’s match will be the first time Salisbury will referee a West Ham match in the Premier League, having taken note of the Irons’ defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup last season.
Salisbury also served as video assistant referee for the Hammers’ match at Brentford last weekend and West Ham’s first match of the 2023/24 campaign, at AFC Bournemouth.
Salisbury will be assisted Sunday by Richard West and Derek Easton.
West has been an assistant referee in the Premier League since the 2008/09 season and has been on the goal line in 8 Premier League games so far this campaign. He was also named for the 2017 EFL Cup final between Manchester United and Southampton. .
Meanwhile, Easton has been an assistant referee in the Premier League since the 2013/14 campaign, leading the line in 4 league games, Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa last weekend.
Meanwhile, Robert Jones will take on the fourth official role. A Premier League referee since 2019, Jones refereed the 2020 EFL League One play-off final between Oxford United and Wycombe Wanderers.
The daily work of the Video Assistant Referee will be supervised by Peter Bankes. Bankes has refereed two of West Ham United’s Premier League matches this season, at Bournemouth and at home to Newcastle United.
