Nelson, 18, signed a long-term contract with the parent club, Arsenal, before temporarily moving on to the youngest Bundesliga head coach in the summer moving window.
“A loan wasn’t my first choice, but when I heard that the Bundesliga and Hoffenheim were an option for me and running with the coach, there was something I was looking to do,” Nelson told the FA website.
“Julian is a wonderful coach and is in young players, so it’s a smart position for me to pass and play. He’s very young, he’s only 31 years old and I think it’s vital to move on to a team and a coach that in you, so he was the main explanation for why, because he’s in a position to play with us.”
Nelson is recently on a project abroad with england’s Under-21s. He scored the first goal when the Three Lions booked their place in the UEFA Euro U21 championship next summer, thanks to a 7-0 defeat to Andorra.
Nelson, who will return to Arsenal at the end of the 2018/19 campaign, could win his next Bundesliga match against the ascended Nuremberg on 20 October.
