Manchester United players were still inspired by Zlatan Ibrahimovic even after the Swedish striker left Old Trafford, Said Red Devils goalkeeper Lee Grant.
Ibrahimovic joined United in a lazy after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2016.
He scored 29 goals in 53 appearances for The Club Old Trafford before being released from his contract in early March 2018 to join the LA Galaxy MLS team.
Grant moved to Old Trafford four months later, so he could never play for former Inter striker and AC Milan, although the striker’s effect is still felt.
“All I heard in that first month, while acclimatizeing, were stories about Zlatan,” Grant told the club’s official website.
“His time at the club had just ended, but the boys were constantly talking about him.” Remember when Zlatan did this? “Do you think he started this or that education and almost made him cry?” “Do you think Zlatan scored that goal? Do you believe it when he smooped this guy and I’m sure he took out the ps?
‘I thought, ‘My God, who is this Zlatan character? ‘ however, it is like that all the time.
“I was able to meet him [on a pre-season tour] in Los Angeles, but literally for five or 10 minutes, just to greet him and ask him if he liked America and everything else.
“For me, just to see how the kids interacted with him. Huge stars, many massive stars for me, hunting the king! It was pretty revealing. But he seemed like a great guy.
“I am disappointed that I did not have the possibility to play with him myself. I played against him, of course.
Although Grant played with Ibrahimovic, he inspired the opposite game to him for Stoke in October 2016.
The 37-year-old made a series of saves when the Potters drew 1-1 with Jose Mourinho’s team, which would possibly have been instrumental in convincing the United hierarchy to point him out 21 months later.
“I used it in a toast, ” joked Grant. “It’s here, in my pocket somewhere.
“I toasted him that day. Of course, I wouldn’t say that to your face. If I were the education contrary to him, I’d think he would have toasted more for me than I did in a toast, but it was a smart day for me.
“I sought to show the Manchester United enthusiasts, and everyone in this stadium, perhaps not consciously, but I looked for the enthusiasts not to forget Lee Grant after this game. Subconsciously, I sought to get it right and make a smart 10 stops and I made a very smart game.
