We’re back in action at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon (12:00 p. m. United Kingdom) when we face Barclays Women’s Super League Leicester City in the semi-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
This weekend’s match will be the eleventh at this world-class stadium – the first time a Women’s FA Cup draw has been played there – and we take a look back at our past matches at N17. . .
North London’s first derby in the WSL took place here at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in just our sixth post-promotion topflight game. And a crowd of 38,262 broke the league attendance record at the time, despite Arsenal taking the points. Kit Graham and Rianna Dean missed clever scoring opportunities for us, while Kim Little and Vivianne Miedema scored for the visitors.
The Gunners visited the N17 in March 2021, this time behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But Rehanne Skinner’s side struggled as goals from Caitlin Foord, Miedema and Katie McCabe gave Arsenal victory while we remained eighth in the WSL table.
We host the Gunners at N17 in a pre-season friendly to prepare for the 2021/22 crusade – our third season in the WSL. A goal from Beth Mead in the 30th minute gave the visitors the lead before Katie McCabe, Anna Patten and Alex Hennessy scored in the second half to make it 4-0.
History was made when we recorded our first WSL win here at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, beating Birmingham City on the opening day of the 2021/22 campaign. We had faced Arsenal here in a pre-season friendly a month earlier. While that win against the Blues gave us the best start to the campaign. Kit Graham made history by scoring our first WSL goal at this venue.
We ended the season as we did for the 2021/22 crusade: with a 1-0 WSL win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium! With the possibility of finishing fifth in the table with a win over Leicester City, we achieved it thanks to Ashleigh. Neville, who scored the only goal of the game in the 49th minute when he soared higher with a cross from Jess Naz and guided his header into the back of the net.
The first of three WSL matches here last season ended in disappointment, with Manchester United taking the spoils. 0-0 at half-time, Leah Galton opened the scoring for the visitors before Bethany England equalised with a fine goal with 15 minutes remaining. But almost immediately, Molly Bartrip scored an own goal and United held on to win despite Ella Toone’s red card.
England struck twice on this pitch in April 2023, which helped us secure an important draw against Brighton in our bid to avoid relegation last season. We had to come from behind twice because Elisabeth Terland gave the visitors the lead early on, but England equalised. Lee Geum-Min gave Brighton the lead in the second half, before our striker crushed our moment and third goal in N17.
A comprehensive win against Reading in May 2023 secured our prestige in the WSL for the 2023/24 campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Against a team that started the game at the back of the table and would have struggled with us if they had won. , we put in an impressive performance with a brace from Bethany England and further goals from Celin Bizet and Kit Graham to secure our position on the most sensible flight for 2023/24.
Ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, we faced Aston Villa in a closed-door pre-season friendly as we stepped up arrangements and it was manager Robert Vilahamn’s first experience in an N17 dugout. Although we couldn’t locate the back of the net, it was a brilliant performance against any other WSL team, with Bizet creating some chances.
A new story created in our last game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when we got our first win against Arsenal in front of an impressive crowd of 19,480. After withstanding pressure from the Gunners and having a couple of partial chances, we took the lead after thirteen minutes of play in the second half when Thomas made a clever move that left the visitors absolutely disoriented, deflecting Celin Bizet’s pass into the top corner.
Tickets are yet to be purchased for our clash against the Foxes at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon (12:00 p. m. UK time) in the Women’s FA Cup as we look to reach the final of the festival for the first time in our team’s history.
