Just three days on from the narrow defeat at the hands of RB Leipzig in the Premier League International Cup, Crystal Palace Under-21s returned to league action as they welcomed Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Due to the quick turnaround, there were five changes to the side. Caleb Kporha, Franco Umeh, Kaden Rodney, Luke Plange and Rob Holding all came into the side in place of Jake Grante, Joe Sheridan, Rio Cardines, Malcolm Ebiowei and Jesse Derry.

The visitors enjoyed more of the ball and threatened from a number of corners early on, though none of them really threatened Louie Moulden in the Palace goal.

The first possibility of attack by the Eagles fell to the Ola-Edebomi Ademola after a loose shot. He kept alive through Jack Wells-Morrison while falling to number 9, but his effort blocked the defense of the Wolves in recovery.

Umeh made a booming run midway through the first half, settling in Hindolo Mustapha, who blocked his shot.

Wolves’ best chance of the half fell to Ty Barnett after an incisive breakaway just past the half-hour mark, but it was well saved by Moulden.

Just before the break, Luke Plange was in control to respond to a Kporha cross on the volley but was saved through Josh Gracey in the Wolves goal.

After the break, either side probably had to break early. Palace had a burst of corners, similar to the way Wolves went in the first half, Gracey was untested. Barnett stopped above the bar for the visitors after a clever move.

Kporha saw a blocked effort after Umeh and Plange combined very well, before the corner of Wells-Morrison was cleared of the line after a scrum in the nozzle.

The visitors controlled to score in the 70th minute. Dani Angel scored in a close diversity after retrieving a lob from the Temple of patron Ojinnaka.

Palace pushed for an equalizer in the remaining time, but it was not in vain. Ola-Adebomi narrowly missed, after a wonderful pre-play through Mustapha, while second-half substitute Malcolm Ebiowei saw a shot from Gracey.

Defeat means Powell and his side slip to 10th in the Premier League 2 standings on goal difference. They are currently level on points with West Ham United and one behind Newcastle United.
