The Jacksonville Jaguars would have a destination of interest to would-be general managers and head coaches before the 2021 offseason.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter, referring to sources, reported Sunday morning that “the general manager and prospective principal education applicants are paying special attention” to the Jaguars because “Jacksonville’s general manager and head coach positions are much more exciting for applicants, who have talked about what opportunity it would be for draft paintings to choose Trevor Lawrence. “
Jerry Reese, who won two Super Bowls as general manager of the New York Giants, is among the vacuum contenders with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.
Reese has already interviewed the Jaguars, who are looking to upgrade Dave Caldwell. Caldwell, who was hired as general manager in January 2013, fired on November 29 with a 1-10 record, the third year in a row with at least 10 losses.
Reese had long been with the Giants organization, joined the club in 1994 and ran as a headhunter before being appointed director of the workers’ player corps in 2004. Their groups eliminated the New England Patriots in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI.
He fired head coach Ben McAdoo when the team started the season 2-10 in 2017, starting with a 91-85 record in 11 seasons as general manager.
“Jerry, a wonderful general manager, ” said a Rapoport executive. “I think it’s crazy that they don’t hire him anymore. “
According to Rapoport, Reese has been vying for jobs as general manager and other personnel positions since being fired through the Giants, but was supposedly in no interest in holding a position besides general manager, possibly also locating a house with Carolina. Panthers, running with his former assistant coach Matt Rhule.
Whoever secures the position in Jacksonville will inherit a team that has tied a franchise record with thirteen consecutive losses, however, in addition to the chance of being chosen No. 1, the Jaguars have 11 draft picks and nearly $100 million in roof space.
Jacksonville has at least two applicants for the position, according to Schefter, interviewed by former Texans general manager Rick Smith and ESPN analyst Louis Riddick.
