While Seattle remains a prime location for NBA expansion, league officials do not officially expect the concept until 2022 at the latest.
According to David Aldridge of The Athletic, the NBA’s return to Seattle “seems inevitable,” however, the timing of that remains unknown.
“[A] senior executive of the team said that it is very likely that any serious expansion attention will occur at least before the end of the 2021-2022 season,” Aldridge wrote Friday. “In any case, expansion remains the much more likely direction for cities lately without NBA groups in the coming years than relocation. And Seattle is the most sensible on the list. “
