The Charlotte Hornets have the No. 3 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and may be in the USC ahead of Onyeka Okongwu.
Kevin O’Connor of the Ringer reported that the Hornets “are probably targeting a wonderful guy and are Okongwu strongly. “
Okongwu averaged 16. 2 points, 8. 6 rebounds and 2. 7 stoppers in his only season with the Trojans. Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report placed him as the third player in his last big picture:
“Everyone buys their floor as a paver and tire protector. The debate focuses on its as a 6’9” fire center, without a gunshot.
“But I’m too good at Okongwu’s footwork to create shots and touch the inside of the bow. He is more than a matador with his ability to tremble on the pole and play softly with both hands.
“It will also anchor the paint defensively while maintaining changeability and recovery speed in pick-and-roll coverage. It’s an inevitable option with the prospect of having an effect on games on both sides. “
The main challenge for the Hornets right now is that they have few basic portions for their reconstruction.
Terry Rozier will turn 27 in March, and integrates more as a complementary piece than as a primary guard. The first-round picks in the Malik Monk, Miles Bridges and P. J. draft. Washington are not quite ruled out yet. Devonte ‘Graham has had a 2019-2020 season and is expected to be a back zone component in the future; however, there is no skill in Kemba Walker, who can be a cornerstone of the franchise.
The only merit of the Hornets is that they have a lot of flexibility in the first round, they can concentrate on the price they write as needed.
Okongwu would adapt to the objectives.
Cody Zeller enters the final year of his contract, while Willy Hernangomez and Bismack Biyombo are loose agents. Assuming Charlotte makes an effort to re-sign Hernangomez, the team would still have a gap in the middle as Zeller is a primary advertising candidate for an expiring deal.
Okongwu can come in and be the long-term solution for 5.
