The NBA aims to begin the pre-season on December 11 with groups betting 3 or 4 games, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.
Clubs can request as many games as they prefer, but each team will need to organize at least one home game before the normal season begins on December 22.
The league already faces the shortest off-season in the history of North America’s 4 major sports leagues, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, with just 71 days between the end of the NBA Finals and the start of the normal season.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, NBA and Player Association officials agreed that any additional delays in the 2020–21 season would create monetary difficulties for the league that would require longer-term responses to balance, which could have an effect on the salary cap, as well as the distribution of basketball-related revenue.
Training camps are scheduled to open on December 1 for a normal 72-game season. This setting already has an education involved in protecting players.
“It will be especially difficult not only to be ready to play on December 22 or another, but also during a four- or five-month era,” said a head coach of a Western Conference team at ESPN’s Baxter Holmes.
The NBA has yet to release the calendar for the 2020–21 season but, according to Wojnarowski, expects to finish their 2020-21 playoffs through July, allowing players to compete at the 2021 Summer Olympics.
