Tottenham are reportedly in talks to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
The Chelsea captain is one of the best players in January and Tottenham are among the clubs chasing him for some time now.
Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio tweeted this morning that Tottenham and Chelsea are in talks to bring Gallagher to north London.
And taking things a little deeper, Di Marzio has now added more context to his website, adding fees to be agreed upon.
It’s reported that Tottenham will look to pay around £40m to sign Gallagher. That sort of money falls short of the reported £50m Chelsea were said to be looking to get for the midfielder.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been keen to bring in new players next month. A new defender is high on his agenda as well.
However, a deal for Gallagher has appealed to the Spurs boss and it looks like he can get what he wants.
Chelsea fans won’t be too happy about this reported price. £40m is not that great in the grand scheme of things and they’re going to be losing a key player and one who the crowd like.
Any club that promotes its captain will always cause a split within the fan base. Chelsea enthusiasts will be left speechless to find that all the spending they’ve spent on average players is now leading them to have to sell local talent.
For Tottenham, of course, this can be huge.
The club are looking to move Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on and the idea of replacing the Dane with Gallagher makes a lot of sense.
If Tottenham crosses the baseline and then brings up a defender like Jean-Clair Todibo or Radu Dragusin, then the window will be good luck anyway.
Anything else, except those two signings, would simply be an advantage.
