Atalanta has officially signed Italian foreign striker Mateo Retegui from Genoa in a €28 million deal, adding add-ons.
The center forward has become a precedent after his Azzurri teammate, Gianluca Scamacca, was sidelined for six months due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in a pre-season friendly.
Born in Argentina, Retegui spent his time this morning in Bergamo and put the pen to the contract.
He arrived in Serie A from Club Atlético Tigre de Genoa last summer for €15m plus performance-related bonuses, some of which will go to his former club.
According to several sources, this transfer to Atalanta will value 25 million euros plus another 3 million euros in add-ons.
The striker turned 25 in April and scored seven goals and two assists in his first season in Serie A.
He had also been linked with Bologna and Juventus, but chose Atalanta to continue his career under coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
