LOS ANGELES (AP) — Marco Reus is headed to Major League Soccer, agreeing Thursday to a contract with the LA Galaxy at the end of the 2026 season.
The 35-year-old midfielder left Borussia Dortmund in May after 12 years at his hometown club. He was named Footballer of the Year in the Budensliga in 2012 and 2019.
Reus recorded 15 goals and 14 assists in 48 games for Germany in 2011-12. He scored a goal and assisted in Germany’s 2-1 victory over Sweden in the organizing phase of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
He scored goals and provided 131 assists in 429 games for Dortmund.
“Marco Reus is a world-class player who has excelled in this sport,” said Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz. “The fact that two-time Bundesliga Footballer of the Year Marco is joining the Galaxy after playing his entire career in Germany is a testament to the work we continue to build on at the club.
“We look forward to Marco’s contributions to the LA Galaxy as we move into the critical final stretch of the 2024 MLS season and beyond. “
LA acquired the rights to Reus from Charlotte FC for $400,000 in general allotment. He had discussed moving to Charlotte before opting for the Galaxy.
