Revealed: Tottenham to announce new signing next week after deal wrapped up

Tottenham are set to announce the new signing of midfielder Alfie Devine next week, Football Insider understands.

This site first broke the news eight days ago that Devine, 15, was headed from Wigan Athletic to Spurs to undergo a medical and finalise the terms of a transfer.

The deal was all wrapped up a week ago and Devine has put pen to paper on a scholarship contract that will be converted into a professional deal when he turns 17.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the rising star has passed a medical at Hotspur Way and will be part of their youth team set-up going into next season.

The Londoners are paying £500,000 for Devine, a substantial sum for player so young.

They have not yet announced his arrival although that is because he will be heading to their academy rather than first-team squad.

However, there is expected to be some mention of the new boy when a flurry of exits are announced next week that are set to include senior stars Jan Vertonghen and Michel Vorm.

The centre-back and goalkeeper are both out of contract when the season ends.

Devine is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in England after some outstanding displays in age-group football.

He has also been capped by England at Under-16 level and is regarded as a Premier League and international star of the future.

Wigan have been forced to cash in on the teenager after being placed into administration earlier this month.
