Rhode Island FC Holds Open Tryouts, Promising Team Reflecting Community

EAST PROVIDENCE, R. I. (WJAR) – Rhode Island FC, the Ocean State’s newest men’s soccer team, held tryouts Saturday morning at Providence Country Day School in East Providence.

The trials come after months of scouting through International Federation head coach and manager Khano Smith.

“When I began my role as head coach, one of my most sensible priorities was to stay true to our club’s commitment to being a team for all of Rhode Island. I can’t think of a better way to deliver on that promise than by providing homegrown skill the opportunity to showcase their skills at an open tryout in the state,” said Coach Smith.

Players who impress in training will be invited to the RIFC Player Identification Combo later this year.

“The team we put in the box will be a team we can all be proud of and will reflect the character of our community,” Smith said.

RIFC will begin its inaugural season in March 2024 at Bryant University’s Beirne Stadium.

The team hopes to move to Tidewater Landing Stadium in downtown Pawtucket when it’s completed in 2025.

Fans can visit the official Rhode Island FC website for ticket price information.
