Rio Ferdinand says the “only way” for Jadon Sancho to return to Manchester United is for Erik ten Hag to be sacked as manager.
Sancho returned to his former Borussia Dortmund side in January after falling out with Ten Hag the previous season.
The England foreigner was disappointed at Old Trafford after a £73m transfer in 2021 but showed a glimpse of his immense potential on loan in Germany, helping Dortmund triumph in the Champions League semi-finals and playing in their first-leg victory. Saint-Germain.
Sancho was expected to complete a permanent move to Dortmund, but his recent form has sparked speculation that United would remain the 24-year-old.

“I think the only way to return to Manchester United is if Erik ten Hag is there,” Ferdinand told TNT Sports ahead of Dortmund’s Champions League semi-final second leg against PSG.
“I don’t think they can weaken the coach and let a player not apologize and then bring him back.
“I don’t think they’re going to weaken the coach like that. I think Ten Hag wants to leave and leave the building for Jadon Sancho to come back.
Recalling Sancho’s performance against PSG last week, Ferdinand added: “If he plays like that tonight, he will really put pressure on United and the others on stage.
“If he continues with a mediocre performance, I think that answers a lot of questions, but if he plays again, there will be other people asking questions in the scenes about his future. “
Former Manchester United star Owen Hargreaves believes Sancho can be part of “something big” alongside some of Old Trafford’s existing rising stars.
“It’s Manchester United and he’s got a contract there,” the former England midfielder said.
“If you associate it with Hojlund, Garnacho, Mainoo. . . There’s a chance that something big will grow. Jadon may be just one of them, and he deserves to be excited about the possibility.
“I think it’s a great moment for him to be the most productive player on the pitch in a Champions League semi-final.
“If he does it again tonight, he’ll be in another category because he showed last week why United paid so much money for him.
“For some reason it didn’t happen at United, but at the highest level and in his biggest game in years, he showed he has the potential to be a special player. “
Ten Hag is under enormous pressure, but Manchester United will make their final decision on the 54-year-old at the end of the season, even despite the recent 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
