ANKARA (AA) – Italian soccer club Roma fired famed coach Jose Mourinho on Tuesday.
“AS Roma can verify that José Mourinho and his coaching staff will leave the club promptly,” the club said.
“We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his fans and effort since he arrived at the club,” club Dan and Ryan Friedkin said.
“We will have good memories of his time in Rome, but we believe that a quick replacement is the most productive for the club,” they said, wishing Mourinho all the best in his career.
Roma appointed Mourinho in May 2021.
During his tenure, Roma won the 2022 UEFA Europa Conference League and reached the Europa League final last season.
Mourinho’s Roma have 29 problems in 20 games, putting them in ninth place in Italy’s top league, Serie A, led by Inter Milan, which has 51 problems.
In the past, Mourinho has coached Porto in Portugal, Chelsea in England, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan in Italy and Real Madrid in Spain.
The 60-year-old Portuguese is a two-time UEFA Champions League winner, with Porto in 2004 and Inter in 2010.
Mourinho won titles with Porto, Chelsea, Inter and Real Madrid.
He also won the 2017 UEFA Europa League trophy while at Manchester United.
