Tottenham’s hopes of adding to their already strong organization of young players appear to be failing when it comes to landing a French star.
Min-hyeok Yang, 18, from South Korea, became the latest addition to the club when he signed a contract until 2030, with the winger not officially moving until January 2025.
Yang joins Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray to take up the pen and paper in north London this summer, while Tottenham already have a glut of talented teenagers in their chips.
But it looks like the high-profile star who has garnered a lot of interest in recent weeks will slip through their fingers, according to moving expert Fabrizio Romano.
Rennes midfielder Désiré Doué has been considered one of Tottenham’s top targets since the summer window opened, but it seems unlikely that a deal will be reached.
Speaking to The Debrief, Romano shared an update on Doue’s future, with the journalist saying he now believes Doue is much more likely to sign up for Bayern Munich or PSG.
“I think it may not happen to Spurs, it will be between PSG and Bayern. Bayern have already presented a new offer of 55 million euros, PSG’s is around 60 million euros, precisely what Rennes wants. I think it may just be this week, but it’s not guaranteed yet,” Romano said.
It could be argued that Doue would have a better chance of betting on Tottenham, given Ange Postecoglou’s practice of giving minutes to young players if he feels they are in a position to step up their efforts.
This may not be the case for Bayern or PSG, where reaching the first team will inevitably be more complicated.
Tottenham must be deterred by this snub as they continue to push for more additions to Postecoglou’s team.
In fact, the next step may be a smart deal for Juventus striker Federico Chiesa.
The north London club are very likely to sign the 26-year-old Italy international, who could leave for a bargain £26m.
The winger has less than 12 months left on his contract at the Allianz Stadium, hence the explanation for his strangely low price.
Chiesa played a lot in the centre during Juve last season and scored a total of 10 goals with 3 assists in 37 games in all competitions.
