Romano thrills update on Man United and Rashford as two European giants ‘ask for conditions of movement’

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has given Manchester United fans an update on the future of Marcus Rashford, who has been linked with a January exit.

Man United striker Rashford, 27, has struggled to regain his spark over the past season and a half, which has led to him spending less time playing. Despite this, he has scored seven goals and provided 3 assists in 24 games in all competitions this season.

Even with the arrival of Ruben Amorim, he has failed to reignite his career post-Erik ten Hag, starting just two league games since his arrival in November. That has seen transfer stories emerge linking him with an exit to one of Europe’s top five leagues.

According to Romano, Rashford is contemplating offers to remain in European football’s elite leagues despite interest from Galatasaray. He headed to X to check the latest news.

“The moves around Marcus Rashford have been as expected,” he wrote. “Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan have asked for the terms of the agreement.

‘More contacts are planned, meanwhile, Galatasaray also approached Rashford this week but he’s prioritising other options in top 5 leagues now.’

One of the difficulties for teams to hire him is his large salary and his contract that extends until 2028.

Although the player may need to leave Man United, this can also prove problematic for aspiring clubs, unless he is willing to take a pay cut to leave.

That was echoed by David Ornstein of The Athletic. He told NBC: “Ruben Amorim has given all the players a clean slate and judges them by the same criteria on and off the court.

“He clearly feels Marcus Rashford’s training performance and maybe even his attitude are not up to scratch – and there has been scrutiny over his social life. That is something that Marcus Rashford’s camp strenuously deny.

“But what are the options? In January, it’s going to be very difficult. He signed a big contract in 2023 that runs until 2028 and earns more than £325,000 a week. Who will be in a position to take this on?

“I have been told that reports of rejected donations from Saudi Arabia are not accurate. The Saudis rejected the idea, saying there was no offer.

His fall-off has been well documented given he managed just eight goals in 43 games last season which resulted in him being omitted from England’s Euro 2024 squad despite previously being a regular feature under Gareth Southgate before that.

Of course, his 2022/23 campaign saw him achieve a career-high result by scoring 30 goals and providing nine assists in 56 games.

In total, his record stands at 138 goals and 63 assists in 426 games since his promotion from the academy, although it is possible that the local star will be out in the next six months.
