Chris Smalling is expected to return to Manchester United after Roma was unable to negotiate fares with his parent club for a permanent deal.
The former England defender spent the season on loan in the Italian capital, and the Serie A team paid off a loan of 2.7 million pounds last summer.
But according to Sky Sport Italia, a higher bid from Rome has still responded to the Premier League team’s 18 million pound rating and they will lose hope of retaining it, and central will most likely return to Old Trafford after betting their last club match.
