Ruf homers late, Giants lead Mariners 6-5

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Pinch hitter Darin Ruf homered with one out in the seventh inning and the San Francisco Giants defeated Seattle 6-5 Tuesday night, ending the Mariners’ six-game winning streak.

Alex Dickerson and Mauricio Dubon also went safety for the Giants, who eliminated a 5-1 deficit to win for the seventh time in games.

San Francisco freshman manager Gabe Kapler had to use five pitchers to keep his club on a roll and had a great night of offense.

Donovan Solano had 3 hits and scored twice. Brandon Belt was single twice and had two RBIs. The Giants have scored 4 or more problems in 10 straight games for the first time since 2007.

J. P. Crawford led 3 for the Mariners.

Seattle coach Scott Servais ejected in the eighth through home plate umpire John Libka for arguing about balls and hitting.

Ruf’s takeoff opposed left reliever Anthony Misiewicz (0-2) his third of the season and the fourth of his career as a pincher. Ruf, in his first year back in the majors after betting 3 seasons in Korea, called for a strike for Dickerson, who edged out right-hander Brady Lail in the 3rd.

Dubon also ruled Lail.

Tyler Rogers (2-3) knocked out 3 batters to win. Tony Watson pitched the ninth to save his moment.

Giants starter Logan Webb allowed runs and six hits in innings.

Mariners starter Ljay Newsome was knocked out of the game after being hit across the field through Brandon Crawford’s 100-mile-per-hour line workout early in the second. The ball bounced off Newsome’s hand into the air and went through Crawford at shortstop for one out. Newsome grimaced and tried to flex his hand several times before Servais and a team coach emerged.
