Six more people are missing after a private plane carrying out a medical evacuation from Thailand to Russia crashed in a remote area of Afghanistan after deviating from its flight plan and disappearing from radar screens.
A regional spokesman said the twist of fate occurred on Saturday in a mountainous area near the Zebak district of Badakhshan province, adding that a rescue team had been dispatched but it would take 12 hours to reach the crash site.
Zebak, a populated rural and mountainous area, is about 250 kilometers northeast of the Afghan capital, Kabul.
The Russian government said two passengers and four crew members were on board the charter ambulance flight, which was traveling from Utapao airport near Pattaya to Moscow via India and Uzbekistan.
