Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy says that a legendary former player is his favourite teammate to play for at Old Trafford.
Ruud van Nistelrooy was a fan favourite during his illustrious spell at Old Trafford and the Manchester United striker was in top scoring form at the club.
During his five seasons at Old Trafford, former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson Van Nistelrooy scored a remarkable 150 goals in 219 appearances for the Red Devils.
The 47-year-old Dutchman, who joined United in 2001 from PSV Eindhoven, won a Premier League title, an FA Cup and a League Cup during his time at United.
Van Nistelrooy’s time at United ended in 2006 after his move to Real Madrid, when his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson broke down.
The Netherlands international, who ended his playing career in 2012, shared the pitch with a star-studded squad at Old Trafford.
However, a former United teammate stood out from the rest as Van Nistelrooy’s player to play for the Red Devils.

Ruud van Nistelrooy played alongside Manchester United legends Paul Scholes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney when he was at the club.
Paul Scholes has admitted he is a big fan of his link play with Van Nistelrooy, with the former United midfielder calling him the striker he has played with.
Despite his chemistry with Scholes, United legend Van Nistelrooy has revealed that the club legend is his favourite player to play for at Old Trafford.
The former United striker was asked by a fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, about his time with the Red Devils and which player he enjoyed being on the pitch with the most.
In reaction to the tweet, Van Nistelrooy wrote on X in 2015: “Roy Keane. “
Van Nistelrooy has praised his relationship with former United captain Roy Keane, who tore the Dutchman apart for months over anything he wore.
Roy Keane, considered one of the most productive captains of all time, admires Van Nistelrooy and once paid him his greatest compliment.
Van Nistelrooy, who has been manager since his tenure at PSV Eindhoven ended in 2023, praised Keane as an “incredible” figure at United.
The former PSV manager was inspired by Keane’s role as captain and Van Nistelrooy admitted the Irishman managed United in an “incredible way” as captain.
