PARIS (AP) – After the emotional heyday of securing a first win over their fierce rival Paris Saint-Germain in years, Marseille faced the truth on Thursday.
Marseille lost 2-0 at home to Saint-Etienne, missing a chance for the most sensitive in the league.
Instead, it was Saint-Etienne who led after a third consecutive victory thanks to goals from extreme Romain Hamouma in the 6th minute and striker Denis Bouanga in the 75th minute.
Substitute Marley Aké hit the crossbar and midfielder Morgan Sanson missed one while Marseille failed at the beginning of the middle of the moment.
Marseille beat PSG 1-0 in Paris last Sunday in an attack that saw players ejected in extra time as the mood increased.
While PSG has dominated French football in recent times, Marseille and Saint-Etienne are the two most successful groups in the country traditionally with 10 league titles each.
Despite the match opposed to relegation last season, clashes with veteran goalkeeper Stéphane Ruffier and the relegation of major players, Saint-Etienne began an unforeseen start on the new crusade under coach Claude Puel.
It is the only team with a best record after 3 rounds.
