Salzburg advances to Champions League Israel or Belarus

NYON, Switzerland (AP) – Salzburg has faced Maccabi Tel Aviv or Dinamo Brest in Tuesday’s Champions League qualifiers.

Austrian champions will play for the first time in Israel or Belarus on September 22 or 23, when the festival returns to a two-round format.

Maccabi and Dinamo will play a week earlier in the third qualifying round, which is a one-legged knockout due to a tight schedule in the new season behind through the pandemic.

Salzburg played at the champions league organisation level last year, finishing third, while teen striker Erling Haaland scored in their first five games, adding Liverpool and Napoli.

In other pairs, Olympiakos has decided to host the first leg against red star Belgrade or Cypriot club Omonia.

Krasnodar, eliminated via Olympiakos in the playoffs last year, may face Greek team PAOK Thessaloniki, but PAOK had a qualifying match at home against Benfica first.

Krasnodar first paired with Dynamo Kyiv or AZ Alkmaar, but a UEFA rule since 2014 prevents groups from Russia and Ukraine from approaching for security reasons. Dynamo and AZ have moved down on diversity and the winner will face Gent or Vienna fast.

The first leg will be played on 22 or 23 September and the second leg will be played on 29 or 30 September.The draw of the 32 organizations of the organization level is scheduled for October 1 in Athens.

The loss in the Champions League qualifiers will be moved to the Europa League organisational level.
