BUENOS AIRES (AP) – Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni hopes Lionel Messi’s resolve to stay in Barcelona will give the national team advantages when this week’s World Cup qualifiers begin.
Messi has managed to leave the Spanish club this low season to replace his brain after the club refused to let it go for free, opting to stay to launch a potentially ugly legal war against the club.
Scaloni said at a press conference on Wednesday that he had not played any components in the resolution, but was happy to see the challenge resolved so messi could fully concentrate on his performances on the field.
“From afar, we look for him tidy, we dazzlingly look for him to play and be fit,” Scaloni said. “It’s a good thing he stays because he plays, he knows the surroundings and that’s all I can say.
Argentina will begin its qualifying crusade opposed to Ecuador on Thursday, as Messi embarks on the elusive attempt to claim the name of the World Cup. Argentina lost the 2014 World Cup final to Germany and was overthrown through eventual winner France in the 16-game circular in 2018.
“I spoke to Messi when the challenge was resolved with Barcelona, serene and quiet. Now that you’re here, we’ve had a long conversation. Leo is pleased to be with the selection, and now he’s doing well at his club,” Scaloni said. We have to move on to this World Cup for many reasons, and one of the main ones, obviously, is that Leo is capable of playing. “
