Sergiño Dest admits that it will be difficult to return to Barcelona while Xavi remains coach

In an interview with Voetbal International, Dest made it clear that if PSV don’t buy him, he would have to return to Los Cules this summer.

“Xavi is here. So not at the moment, it will be too difficult,” Dest told Voetbal International.

If PSV want to, they can exercise their option to buy him for just over $10 million at the end of the season and keep the player, although there is also the alternative of finding a move elsewhere. However, the USMNT international prefers to wait until the end of the Eredivisie campaign.

“Barcelona, PSV and I have something to say about it. It’s too early now, but it will be discussed at the end of the season,” he continued.

“Maybe I’ll stay, maybe I’ll go, but we haven’t done it yet. “

PSV Eindhoven are on a perfect domestic run through 17 rounds with 51 points, 12 more than Feyenoord, as well as being the best attacking team with 59 goals and the best defensive unit with just seven goals conceded.

The 23-year-old American full-back had experienced a stagnation in his career during the 2022-2023 season. Xavi didn’t count on him and proposed to find a new team. Dest was loaned out to Milan but only played 14 games and failed to identify himself as a vital player for the Rossoneri.

This season, his loan is going in a very different direction and he has enough minutes to improve himself as a player.

Dest has played 12 games in the league, with one goal scored and two assists, which has helped him in the process of recovering his career, while waiting to see what happens in the immediate future with Xavi, who is under increasing pressure with Barcelona.

The presence of Rafael Marquez, close to Joan Laporta, behind the scenes, has not helped much to ease the tension on the Spanish coach.
